Travel insurance

Cancellation, repatriation, luggage, medical costs outside Europe: cover calibrated to the trips you actually take, with no overlap with your existing policies.

Two minutes is all it takes: tell us who you are and what needs covering. We come back with compared quotes.

The essentials

Travel insurance combines two distinct protections. Before departure, cancellation cover reimburses the booked trip if illness, an accident or another serious event prevents you from leaving. During the stay, the assistance service organises and pays for whatever is needed: early return, medical transport, repatriation to Switzerland, operations that quickly run to tens of thousands of francs from another continent.

The least understood point concerns medical care. Basic health insurance reimburses emergencies abroad at no more than twice what the same treatment would cost in Switzerland. Within Europe, the European Health Insurance Card gives access to public healthcare. Outside Europe, the United States, Canada, Australia, hospital costs far exceed these limits: supplementary cover for treatment costs then becomes essential.

That leaves the choice of policy: one-off cover for a single trip, or an annual policy once you travel several times a year, often valid for the whole household. Before you take out a policy, we check what your credit cards, household contents insurance or assistance club membership already cover, overlaps are common.

What this insurance covers

  • Cancellation costs

Illness, accident, death of a close relative or serious damage to your home before departure: the price of the trip and rebooking costs are reimbursed for the reasons listed in the policy.

  • Assistance and repatriation

Early return, medical transport and repatriation to Switzerland organised and paid for, with an emergency call centre reachable around the clock.

  • Medical treatment costs abroad

Tops up basic health insurance and your supplementary cover where local rates exceed Swiss limits, particularly outside Europe.

  • Luggage

Theft, damage or loss of luggage during the trip, including items entrusted to a transport company.

  • Trip interruption

If an insured event cuts the stay short, the unused portion of the booked services is compensated.

Who it is for

  • Families who book holidays early, with cancellation charges that climb as departure approaches.
  • Travellers outside Europe, where Swiss medical cover quickly reaches its limits.
  • People who travel several times a year, for whom an annual policy makes sense.
  • Active travellers: trekking, diving, cruises, itineraries off the beaten track.
  • Students and young adults on extended stays abroad.

Frequently asked questions

Does Swiss health insurance cover medical care abroad?

It covers emergencies, but reimbursement is capped: at best twice what the treatment would have cost in Switzerland, and never repatriation. In European countries, the European Health Insurance Card gives access to public healthcare on local terms. Outside Europe these ceilings are quickly reached, a hospital stay in the United States can cost several times the Swiss rate. A travel policy closes precisely these two gaps.

Annual policy or one-off cover?

One-off cover makes sense for a single trip. From two or three departures a year, an annual policy is usually more economical: it covers every trip during the year, often for the whole household, with no paperwork before each departure. We compare both options against your actual travel habits.

What exactly do cancellation costs cover?

They reimburse the price of the trip when you have to cancel for an insured reason: serious illness or accident, death of a close relative, or significant damage to your home, for example. Recognised reasons vary from one policy to another, simply no longer wanting to travel is not among them. Most policies also cover rebooking costs if you leave later or travel differently.

Am I already covered by my credit card?

Often partly: many cards include cancellation or assistance cover, but with limited ceilings, strict conditions, the trip generally has to have been paid for with the card, and exclusions. Before you take out a policy, we take stock of what you already have, so you only insure what is missing.
